Climate and young people Speaking at COP26, the High Commissioner emphasised that we can prevent catastrophic climate change, with immediate and ambitious action. She praised children and young people around the world for "stepping up for those solutions to humanity's crisis" by "bravely insisting that States act on their legal obligations to protect human rights"
Climate change and displacement Citing the Sahel region as an example of massive displacement resulting from environmental hardship, the High Commissioner called for countries which have contributed the most to climate change to support mitigation and adaptation in the most affected countries and prevent people from being forced to leave their homes
Women and climate Gender-based discrimination means women are often more exposed to climate harms. We need gender-responsive policies – and gender-focused social protections – to keep people safe, the High Commissioner said.
Bridge building, igniting youth action for unity in diversity The High Commissioner addressed the ‘Building Bridges and Intercultural Dialogue seminar” at the Club de Madrid and Ubuntu Leaders Academy. She spoke to the importance of youth, and taking action to build more inclusive, human-rights based policies and societies. Stating that “policies that are grounded in dialogue, built on inclusion and solidarity, and guided by human rights goals make for more effective and better outcomes.”
Advancing a human rights-based approach to climate action The High Commissioner addressed a UN Side Event, ‘Advancing a human rights-based approach to climate action for people and planet’ at COP26. She stressed the importance of understanding how the interlinked crises of pollution, biodiversity loss, and climate change constitute a grave threat to human rights. Stating that “We need to stand up for ambitious, rights-based and inclusive climate action – so that humanity can survive and thrive.”

Stating that one year and a half after the outbreak of COVID-19, we are still struggling with the effects of this devastating crisis, and that “recovering better from COVID-19 also requires mobilisation and active participation"
Healthcare Speaking to the International Council of Nurses, the High Commissioner issued a powerful call for "more resources for the health sector; better working conditions with decent wages and equal pay for work of equal value, and an end to gender inequalities and discrimination in the health workforce"
